When Your Strategy Shifts

A rude awakening after working in marketing is noticing that you've let your personal brand strategy slip a bit over time. I've coincidently taken a more active role in content marketing and social strategy for the agency I work for, and yet here I am playing catch up on my own personal brand and strategy execution.

But, I'm choosing to forgive myself this time around. The last year has brought nothing but excitement. Let's recap:

I've moved from the corporate scene into the agency world and have learned vast amounts from uncountable stakeholders across the valley. It's helped me find the balance between design, project management, and business analytics that makes me tick. Marketing has connected so many dots for me, and continues to open doors to opportunities to learn and grow.

I've raised (er, coached) another group of twelve girls that gave me a serious run for my money.

I've decided to sign onto a huge (lifetime) partnership, oh ya, I guess most of you call it marriage. ;) Dave proposed this past winter and we are tying the knot in a few short months. Yay!!!

I'm dabbling with a huge investment in the Phoenix-area: purchasing a home. Leave it to the OCD Nebraska girl to need a little extra time creating spreadsheet comparisons of each neighborhood in the valley. Who knows how long this could take!

So the question I face tonight is "Did my strategy slip, or shift?" I think if I'm going to be completely honest with myself, in some ways I have outgrown the person who started this website as a design portfolio. I have also somewhat outgrown the same person who started blogging about (let's be real here) nothing at all to simply see what it led to in terms of interests and possibilities. I now truly believe that having a piece of me on the internet is beneficial not only in expressing who I am both professionally and personally today, but also it is beneficial in giving you the ability of seeing where I came from and what forms my perspective on various aspects of my career and life in general. You basically have access to these candid thoughts that I put down on Sunday night over a (few) beverages just before Game of Thrones.

Too much information? Probably. Don't worry... I promise the normal posts of bad hiking experiences and dog drama will resume shortly as I'd much prefer to fill this with pictures of my (beautiful) dog and then some more of my friends and family. But, I felt like some sort of explanation for 9 months of silence was relevant.

So cheers to you, for reading this. You deserve a drink.
